The Joe Windows Cave Fellowship Award
This act is in accordance with paragraph III K. of the Dayton Underground Grotto Bylaws.
This award is named in honor of Joe Windows, charter member of the Dayton Underground Grotto and affectionately known as the “Father of the Grotto.” Joe was dedicated to introducing novices to caving and led hundreds of cave trips for beginners to educate them on safe caving and conservation practices.
The Joe Windows Cave Fellowship Award is presented each year at DUG’s Wormfest to a caver who has followed Joe’s ideals by introducing novices to caving. The recipient of the award is a caver who has led numerous beginner trips, given presentations to groups about caving, and any other activity that promotes caving to beginners.
CRITERIA:
Individuals nominated for this award must be:
Member of the NSS at time of nomination
Member of any Ohio or regional grotto, survey or conservancy at time of nomination
Nominee must be, or have been, active in promoting caving to beginners by leading beginner cave trips, giving presentations, or other activities that promote caving for beginners.
AWARD:
The award consists of:
Framed certificate
$50 cash award
NOMINATION PROCEDURE:
Any member of an Ohio or regional grotto, survey or conservancy may submit a nomination. Nominations will be on a form available on the DUG web page. The deadline for nominations will be due to the DUG Executive Committee on a date determined by the committee, but no later than one month prior to Wormfest.
